Associate Professor of Pharmacology, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Director of the Fundació Institut Català de Farmacologia (FICF)

Associate Professor of Pharmacology, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Director of the Fundació Institut Català de Farmacologia (FICF), a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Pharmacoepidemiology, in  Barcelona, Spain.

As  Medical Doctor and Clinical Pharmacologist, he worked in different areas of FICF, been part of the Catalan Centre of Pharmacovigilance team, integrated to the Spanish System of Pharmacovigilance between 1987 and 1999, where he contributed to the description of different pharmacovigilance signals, such as the Guillain-Barré Syndrome associated with the use of gangliosides.

Since 2000, he has worked as consultant in different areas related with the promotion of the cautious and prudent use of medicines and strengthening pharmacovigilance systems for Drug Agencies, Health Ministries and Universities of most Latin American countries, Azerbaijan, Namibia, Malaysia, Slovakia and Thailand, as well as for Institutions such as the World Health Organization / Pan-American Health Organization and the World Bank.

Between 2003 and 2006 he designed and coordinated an intervention to improve maternal morbidity and mortality due to postpartum hemorrhage in Argentina, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Peru.

Since 2000 he has conducted many seminars and trainings to improve drug research capacity of health professionals as well as research in pharmacovigilance. Since 2010 he is the Coordinator of the Module on Medicines and Public Health of the European Master in Pharmacogivilance and Pharmacoepidemiology.
