Emiliana Vegas

Full professor of practice at the Harvard Graduate School of Education

Emiliana Vegas was co-Director of the Center for Universal Education at The Brookings Institution, between 2019 and 2022. Before joining Brookings, Dr. Vegas spent over 20 years working in multilateral development institutions where she led research, operations and teams focused on improving education policies and programs in developing countries. She has written extensively on issues affecting education systems in Latin America and the Caribbean and other developing regions. Her papers and books cover topics including policies to leverage technology to accelerate learning and skills development, raising teacher effectiveness, school finance policies, and early childhood development policies. She has a Doctor of Education degree from Harvard University, a Master's of Public Policy degree from Duke University, and a Bachelor's degree in Communications from the Andres Bello Catholic University in Caracas, Venezuela. Beginning on July, 2022, Dr. Vegas will be a full professor of practice at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
