Jorge Coarasa is a Senior Economist with the Health, Nutrition and Population Global Practice of the World Bank.
Based in New Delhi, Jorge manages a portfolio of state and central level projects focused on health systems strengthening and disease control.  He also conducts analytical work and provides advice to governments on health financing, service delivery and the role of the private sector in health systems. He has been based both at World Bank headquarters in Washington DC and in Nairobi where he managed projects in Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania. Before joining the Bank, Jorge was a civil servant with the Mexican Government serving as Deputy Director General with the Ministry of Social Development where he designed and evaluated policies and programs aimed at increasing access to health, education and social protection for the poor. He has been a consultant on social protection for the UN, a teacher at a rural teacher training college in Mozambique and a management consultant with Deloitte. Jorge holds graduate degrees in Economics from ITAM, International Relations from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Public Administration from Harvard University.
