Keren Charles is a Disaster Risk Management Specialist at the World Bank Group and focuses on developing strategies and implementing projects aimed at enhancing countries’ resilience to natural disasters and the impacts of climate change. In addition to providing strategic inputs for infrastructure investments, Keren provides technical guidance on disaster risk financing analyses and is a subject matter expert on the Bank’s Contingency Emergency Response mechanism. Keren is working on innovative analysis techniques for data scarce environments including participatory multi-criteria evaluation processes for prioritizing road investments and a study on the impacts of natural disasters on well-being using unconventional data sources. Keren has also provided strategic and operational guidance to a municipal development project. Keren has a Masters in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Howard University with a Bachelors in Insurance – Actuarial Science.
