Kevin Lunzalu

Winner of the 2021 Blog4Dev competition for Kenya.

Kevin Lunzalu is a young ecologist, researcher, and ocean campaigner from Kenya. He has deep interest in working with youth at grassroots level, youth-inclusive governance and policies, environmental storytelling, and climate action. Through his work, Kevin strengthens youth-centered biodiversity conservation, meaningful engagement of young people in policy formulation and implementation, and ocean sustainability. Kevin was listed among the Top 100 Young African Conservation Leaders 2021. He is an incoming graduate student of Coastal Science and Policy at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Kevin envisions a future where youthful policy ideologies and innovations are centralized in humans living positively with nature.

Kevin is a co-founder of the Kenyan Youth Biodiversity Network, an award-winning youth-led organization that seeks to actively engage young people at the grass-root level to raise their voices in local and national policy frameworks and embrace sustainable action aimed at halting the current unprecedented biodiversity loss and reversing the impact of the climate crisis in Kenya. Kevin also actively uses this network to champion for the voices of young Kenyans and inclusion of their perspectives in the UN conservation frameworks.
