Umar Serajuddin is a Manager at the World Bank’s Development Data Group. He leads the Open Data initiative and oversees the management of World Development Indicators. He also coordinates the World Bank’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) monitoring initiatives—leading the Bank-wide SDG Indicators Group, and representing the World Bank at the Inter-agency Expert Group on SDG Indicators. Umar is an expert in poverty and has worked as a poverty economist for the Middle East and North Africa and the South Asia regions. He led the World Bank’s efforts in poverty analysis and policy development in Jordan and Yemen. He holds a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and has various publications in the fields of poverty, inequality, and social protection.
