No single organization can act alone to help countries reduce their challenges of living amid fragility, conflict and violence. The World Bank’s partnerships with humanitarian, peacebuilding, security, and private sector agencies are critical for maximizing impact on the ground. By working in a coordinated approach, partners and the World Bank are making a difference together.
The World Bank’s recently published Mid-term Review of the Strategy on Fragility, Conflict and Violence (FCV) reiterated the commitment to its “mission-driven” partnership approach. Strengthening partnerships in areas that are outside the World Bank’s comparative advantage is especially important, and it remains central to the FCV Strategy’s implementation.
The World Bank and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have worked jointly on operational support to Somalia, South Sudan, Yemen and Myanmar, and on innovative financing on the Goma West Water Project. The human suffering of communities in Sudan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Gaza, Israel and Ukraine highlights ICRC’s work both in emergencies and protracted conflicts. Mirjana Spoljaric, President, ICRC discusses how ICRC has joined forces with the World Bank to secure sustainable impact in some of the most difficult places in the world.
