For developing countries, a major focus is raising rural incomes. One way to do this that is increasingly grabbing attention is better linking farmers to markets and strengthening value chains – that is, the full range of activities that firms and workers undertake to bring a product from its conception to its end use.
We spoke with Grahame Dixie, Head of the World Bank's Agribusiness Group in Agriculture and Rural Development. He stressed the importance of getting people to discover how they can improve the efficiency of the value chain, including in the non-farm rural economy, and some marketing training courses that are being piloted.
