For Africa—home to the youngest population in the world and an extremely high youth unemployment rate—finding jobs for the millions of young people searching for them is a high priority.
We spoke with Dickson Malunda, a Senior Research fellow at the Institute of Policy Analysis and Research in Rwanda, where about two-thirds of the population is under the age of 25. He says Africa needs to take a more holistic approach to creating jobs and encouraging entrepreneurship—not just piecemeal, insufficiently coordinated efforts. He also stresses the need for massive job creation in manufacturing and political leadership from the top.
