The energy price index surged 7.2% in January led by natural gas (+15%) and oil (+8.1%), according to the World Bank's Pink Sheet. Non-energy prices saw little change.
Agricultural prices edged up 0.3% in January. Food prices declined 0.3%, raw materials fell 1.8%, while beverage prices rose 2.9%. Fertilizer prices increased 3.9%.
Metal prices remained stable in January, as declines in zinc (-7.1%) and lead (-3.5%) were offset by gains in tin (+2.6%) and aluminum (+1.3%). Precious metals inched up by 1.8%, led by a 2.3% increase in gold.
