Most commodity prices posted gains in April—Pink Sheet

Energy prices increased 5.7% in April, led by crude oil (+7.8%) and coal (+3.8%), the World Bank’s Pink sheet reported. Non-energy prices inched up 1.1%. 

Agricultural prices increased 2.2% in April. Food prices rose 1.9%, following gains in the subgroup “other food items” (+5.8%) and grains (+3.2%). Beverages and raw materials rose 5.5% and 1.0%, respectively. Fertilizer prices eased 1.3%. 

Metal prices fell just under 1% in April, as declines in iron ore (-8.6%) and zinc (-6.7%) were offset by increases in tin (+7.5%) and nickel (+2.6%). Precious metals gained nearly 6%, led by silver (+13.8%).
