Johan Norberg on Trade

This page in:

Johan Norberg is on form this week:

Picture this. You walk into a restaurant and the waiter hands you the menu. But there is something wrong. The menu offers you too many choices and the prices are very low. You can see that people at the other tables chose from a menu with far fewer choices at much higher costs. And you demand that the waiter restricts your choices as well, and increases your prices, until all the other visitors at the restaurant also accept more freedom of choice and lower prices. What do you think the waiter would say? That you are insane? I don't think so. I think that he would ask if you are a top trade negotiator.

Norberg also recommends FarmSubsidy.org as a data source to see who really benefits from trade subsidies.
