What kind of books do people want World Bank staff to write?
We private sector development types are keen on market tests, so it's good to see that the World Bank's list of best sellers is currently dominated by works focusing on the investment climate and the role of the private sector:
- Doing Business in 2006 is at number one - see the online database;
- The World Development Report 2005: A better investment climate for everyone is at number four despite being over a year old;
- The Doing Business boxed set is also riding high;
- And The Market for Aid is at number eight.
By my reckoning, if you leave data releases to one side, the private sector development research of the World Bank occupies four of the top five spots. The Market Has Spoken! At least, for today.
