Jordan Schwartz and Mukami Kariuki have just published an excellent new paper on small-scale private service providers (SPSPs) of water and electricity – including some great figures, maps and datasets.
Small scale private providers play a vital role in low coverage areas, especially in remote difficult-to-access regions and post-conflict countries – and deserve greater attention (especially in terms of regulation and financing). It will be interesting to see how many of these small scale-providers will be able to take the next step, becoming local operators for larger towns.
