Aashish Mehta is a development economist and Associate Professor in the Global Studies Department at the University of California-Santa Barbara. In recent years, his research focuses on the connections between employment, education, inequality and changes in the structure of national economies. Earlier publications cover a diversity of topics, including energy sector restructuring, food subsidy programs, caste-discrimination, commodity price crises, and land rights. Previously, he served as an economist at the Asian Development Bank, where he analyzed electricity sector reforms in several Central Asian countries and the Philippines and covered global and Asian macroeconomic developments.
