Senior Financial Sector Specialist, The World Bank

Dr. Ahmed Rostom is a Senior Financial Sector Specialist at The World Bank’s Finance, Competitiveness, and Investment Global Practice – East Africa Region. He joined the World Bank Group in February 2010. His responsibilities include leading the policy dialogue on financial sector development and actively participating in and contributing to multi-sectoral teams involved in policy-based and investment operations in the Africa region.

Dr. Rostom has extensive experience in leading operations in Africa and Southeast Asia and has contributed to developing, designing and implementation of several operations in Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa regions. He has also led and contributed to numerous Financial Sector Assessment assignments. His areas of expertise include macro-finance linkages, long-term finance, financial inclusion, and financial infrastructure in client countries.

Dr. Rostom has authored more than 12 World Bank Policy Research Working Papers and contributed to several World Bank flagship reports and analytical diagnostics in the areas of macroeconomics, financial economics, time series econometrics, and financial sector development. He is also part of the Bank’s youth mentoring program.

Prior to joining the World Bank, Dr. Rostom held various positions within the government, central bank, and banking sector in Egypt. He holds an M.Sc. in Economics and Social Policy Analysis from the University of York in the United Kingdom and received his Ph.D. in Economics from George Washington University in the United States. Dr. Rostom has received ten World Bank awards for operational excellence.
