Akiko Urakami is a Resilient Infrastructure Consultant at the World Bank’s Tokyo DRM Hub, where she has supported the Japan–World Bank Program for Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Management (DRM) in Developing Countries, focusing on resilient infrastructure, particularly in the electricity sector, since 2019. With over 17 years of experience in climate change, energy policy, and DRM, she has held positions at Japan’s Ministry of the Environment and at both the headquarters and Vietnam office of JICA. She has worked extensively across Southeast Asia on renewable energy and climate resilience. Prior to joining the Bank, she advised a private renewable energy developer on international policy frameworks and financing schemes for clean energy projects. At the DRM Hub, she leads knowledge product development and supports technical inputs to infrastructure projects globally. She holds an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London and a Ph.D. in Economics from Kyoto University, where her research focused on Vietnam’s energy transition.
