Alessio Zanelli joined the World Bank Group in 2009. He is currently a Senior Private Sector Specialist of the Global Investment Climate team, advising national and local governments on regulatory and administrative reforms to improve the business environment and promote private sector growth. Alessio’s main area of interest is business regulation reform, focusing particularly on business entry and operations.
Alessio is based in Vienna, Austria. He has extensive experience as team lead and technical lead in Europe and in the Middle East, but he also worked in Sub-Saharan Africa and East Asia. Over the past years, Alessio co-authored several policy notes and reform memoranda. Previously, he led the subnational benchmarking of Egypt and Italy.
Alessio holds a degree in Political Science with focus on Comparative and International Law from the University of Trieste and a MSc in European Political Economy from the London School of Economics. Prior to joining the World Bank, he worked at the Research Center of the Association of Veneto's Chambers of Commerce, where he focused on Small and Medium Enterprise development and industrial cluster analysis.
