Alexander Agosti

Country Representative for the Eastern Caribbean

Alexander Agosti, Country Representative for the Eastern Caribbean based in Barbados, has 25 years of experience in international development and humanitarian efforts, including regional representation, disaster risk management (DRM), disaster risk financing, post-disaster and post-conflict recovery, crisis management and emergency response, and resilience building.

Alex works closely with the governments of Grenada, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Dominica, Antigua & Barbuda and St. Kitts & Nevis to implement the World Bank regional strategy for the Eastern Caribbean, driving economic growth, enhancing climate resilience, and boosting human capital through investments in healthcare, education and social protection systems. He also coordinates World Bank efforts with key partners in the region, including the Caribbean Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, United Nations, European Union, European Investment Bank, Global Affairs Canada, the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the International Monetary Fund and the Red Cross Movement.

Alex joined the Bank in 2015 and has played a key role in developing analytical products, designing and operationalizing post-disaster and post-conflict recovery operations, and conducting high-level policy dialogues with Government and development partners, first in Africa (Nigeria, Malawi and Somalia) and then as Senior DRM Specialist in Latin America and the Caribbean (Colombia, Ecuador, Barbados, Sint Maarten and The Bahamas).

Prior to joining the Bank, Alex spent ten years at the American Red Cross in a number of international and domestic leadership roles, including Regional Manager for LAC programs and Regional Representative for Southern Africa. Alex has a master’s degree in Communications from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Yale University.
