Alfonso Alvestegui is a Senior Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist with the World Bank Water Global Practice. With over 25 years of experience working in rural and urban water supply and sanitation in Latin America and Africa, currently he is responsible for the strategic dialogue, leading analytic and advisory services, and the preparation of lending operations in Bolivia. He is also supervising lending operations in Brazil and Guinea Bissau. Alfonso has field experience managing large rural and urban water and sanitation projects and performed as a consultant in several countries, including Chile, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Kenya and Malawi. Before joining the World Bank, he worked with UNICEF for over 8 years as Program Manager in Bolivia and Mozambique and providing advice on urban projects in the Southern and Eastern Africa region. Alfonso holds a Civil Engineering degree; a Post-graduate and M. Sc. degrees in Environmental Engineering from Imperial College, London; and an MBA from a joint program of the Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID) and the Bolivian Catholic University.
