Alreena is currently a consultant with the World Bank’s Agriculture and Food Global Practice. She served as a Rural Development Specialist with the India team between November 2020 to June 2024, where she managed and supported implementation across a range of agriculture and rural livelihoods projects and led the development of knowledge products, including policy and operational learning notes. At the World Bank, she has led several analytical initiatives and provides data-driven inputs to drive operations and inform ongoing policy dialogues.

She specializes in translating data, research, and evidence into impactful and actionable policy advice. Her experience spans agriculture and fertilizer sector reform, fostering public-private partnerships for digital financial inclusion, enhancing rural livelihoods and market access for smallholders, and advising governments on regulatory reform. She also works on improving last-mile digital transformation through community data collection systems, technology solutions, and the streamlining of monitoring and information systems.

Alreena holds a Master’s degree in Climate Change and Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. Prior to joining the Bank as a consultant in August 2017, she worked with Centre for Microfinance at IFMR LEAD and the Centre for Development Economics at the Delhi School of Economics.
