Alwaleed Alatabani is currently the Practice Manager for the Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation (FCI) Practice Group for East Africa at the World Bank. Prior to taking on this role Alwaleed was on external service from the World Bank and he was a Senior Advisor to the Minister of Finance in the transitional government of Sudan between 2020-2022. Alwaleed spent nine years in the East Asia Pacific region of the World Bank as the Lead Financial Sector Specialist in Indonesia and Vietnam where he led the World Bank’s Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation Global Practice team and Advisory and lending programs. Prior to moving the East Asia, Alwaleed worked on several assignments in East Africa, MENA and Washington DC in the World Bank and MIGA.
Alwaleed has extensive work experience on advising countries on a broad array of economic and financial sector development issues and has undertaken assignments in more than 30 countries.
Alwaleed joined the World Bank in 2002 and holds two master’s degrees from the University of London and London School of Economics.
