Amanullah Alamzai

Senior Agriculture Economist in the Global Agriculture and Food Department, the World Bank

Amanullah Alamzai is a Senior Agriculture Economist in the Global Agriculture and Food (AGF) Department at the World Bank, based in Washington, DC. He brings more than 20 years of professional experience in agriculture, agribusiness, and value chain development, spanning work with producers, agribusiness firms, and the wider private sector.

Within the AGF Global Engagement Unit, Mr. Alamzai is a core member of the Agribusiness, Jobs, and Finance team. In this role, he supports regional teams across the World Bank in promoting private sector engagement, mobilizing private capital through the Maximizing Finance for Development (MFD) approach, and advancing key corporate priorities in the AGF sector.

Previously, Mr. Alamzai served in the South Asia Region, where he led and co-led a diverse portfolio of investment operations and analytical projects—many of which emphasized cross-sectoral collaboration and innovative development solutions. Prior to joining the World Bank, he held senior positions with various international donor programs and non-governmental organizations, where he managed initiatives in agricultural production, value chain development, access to finance, and market systems strengthening.
