Andrew Chilombo

Environment and Natural Resources Management Specialist

Andrew Chilombo is an Environment and Natural Resources Management Specialist, currently working as a Consultant with the Environment, Natural Resources and Blue Economy Global Practice of the World Bank. He has more than a decade of professional experience working on the political ecology and economy of natural resources management, supporting policy development strategies and practices, working with international organizations, governments, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and local communities in various countries in Africa.  He has worked with the Global Environment Facility, the World Bank Group in Zambia, and UNEP and IFAD in Cote d’Ivoire. He has experience in designing and managing land degradation, climate change, and biodiversity projects in support of the implementation of the mandates of the Three Rio Conventions.

He has published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Land Use Policy, Journal of Land Use Science, Journal of Current Opinion in Environmental Sustainability, and Journal of Political Ecology. He is a co-author of the second edition of the UNCCD Global Land Outlook Working Paper.

Andrew holds a PhD in Geography from Edinburgh and an MSc in Environmental Governance from Freiburg, as well as a BSc in Agroforestry and a BA in Philosophy. He speaks Bemba, Nyanja, English, French, Swahili, Kirundi, and basic German.
