Senior Financial Economist

Anna Rios Wilks is a Senior Financial Economist within the disaster risk finance and insurance program in Latin America and the Caribbean. Her role focuses on the economic effects of natural disasters and development of financing solutions.

Ms Rios Wilks holds over 10 years of economic experience in environmental issues, natural disaster financing, agriculture and the labour force - in the UK, Chile, and in less developed countries. 

With a focus on public policy, Ms Rios Wilks has held numerous positions within the UK Government Economic Service, led socio-economic analysis for the development of new policies post EU exit in the agricultural, environmental and natural resource spheres, directed multi-professional analytical areas and driven inititives for evidence based policy making. 

Ms Rios Wilks was instrumental in the development and publication of the UK Magenta Book for public policy evaluation and was a key contributor to the ENCA guide for the consideration of natural capital in policy making. Throughout her career Ms Rios Wilks has been a champion for equality and inclusion; leading numerous projects to promote diversity within Government and for the consideration of under-represented and vulnerable groups within policy making. 

More rently Ms Rios Wilks worked as a senior economist in the Central Bank of Chile, providing expertise on the consideration of natural capital in macroeconomic modelling and advised the Natural Capital Committee on mechanisms to safeguard the environment whilst generating economic development.

Ms Rios Wilks started her career as an economist fellow for the Overseas Development Institute delivering economic analysis throughout the South Pacific Region.
