Anne Bennett is Co-Principle Investigator on the World Bank Sexual Violence Research Initiative Grant for the project entitled Piloting a customizable, user-designed information and communication technology-based approach to reduce intimate partner violence among refugees. She is currently Deputy Head of the Sub-Saharan Africa Division of the Geneva based Center for Security, Development and Rule of Law, (DCAF), managing a wide portfolio of programs supporting human security, including emerging security themes such as the response to global health crises, migration and preventing violent extremism.
As a Senior Fellow and Visiting Scientist at Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI) Ms. Bennett has conducted research on information and communication during humanitarian crisis, including lessons learned from the 2014-2015 Ebola crisis. She is the co-author of the upcoming ICRC publication Engaging with Communities in Armed Conflict and other situations of violence: Taking stock, understanding trends and looking ahead (with Dr. Patrick Vinct). Ms. Bennett previously designed and managed a multi-year initiative to improve the media’s coverage of violence against women and girls in Mali, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Cote d’Ivoire, including reporting on early marriage.
Anne Bennett is President of the Board of Directors, and former Executive Director, of Hirondelle USA, a non-profit organization that helps to build and sustain independent media in post conflict countries. She has served as a consultant to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and United Nations Office in Geneva.
