Avralt-Od Purevjav is an Economist in the Poverty and Equity Global Practice of the World Bank. He has led and supported analytical work and survey implementation across the Europe and Central Asia, South Caucasus, and East Asia regions, with a focus on poverty measurement, welfare monitoring, and regional development. His areas of expertise include survey design and sampling, data systems and statistical operations, spatial and environmental analysis, and applied microeconomics. He has worked extensively on the modernization of Household Budget Surveys in Central Asia and has contributed to the Listening to survey programs in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Armenia, and Indonesia. His research has been published in leading journals such as American Economic Journal: Economic Policy and Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, and he has a forthcoming paper in Science examining climate and livestock dynamics in Mongolia. Prior to joining the World Bank, Avralt-Od held research and teaching positions at Cornell University and the University of Bern. He holds a PhD in Applied Economics from Cornell University.
