Senior Urban Specialist

Axel Baeumler is a Senior Urban Specialist in the Urban, Disaster Risk, and Land Management Unit in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region. He leads lending and advisory service engagements focused on the nexus between sustainable urbanization, climate change and resilience across the ECA region and manages the ECA Cities and Climate Change Program. Before ECA, he worked in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and East Asia Pacific (EAP) regions. He was the co-editor book on “Sustainable Low Carbon City Development in China”. Prior to joining the World Bank, he worked in the private sector at the Boston Consulting Group. Axel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University and Master’s degrees in economics from the London School of Economics and the European University Institute.
