Ayago Wambile is a Senior Economist at the World Bank Poverty and Equity Global Practice based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where he leads lending operations, technical assistance, and applied research work in the areas of poverty and equity. Ayago’s experience covers diagnostic and policy analysis, economic growth, labor markets, poverty analysis and inequality, particularly inequality of opportunity and intergenerational mobility, and social transfers. Previously, he co-led the World Bank regional program on harmonizing and improving statistics in West Africa, covering Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo, and led several operational, analytical, and technical assistance programs in Ghana and Liberia.
Prior to joining the World Bank, Ayago worked at the International Livestock Research Institute, where he carried out research on food security, livelihoods, vulnerability, livestock production systems, and impact evaluation of development programs. He also worked at the Energy, Environment and Development Network for Africa, and contributed to research on energy policy, energy access and power sector reforms in Eastern Africa. Ayago holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Reading and an MPS in International Agriculture and Rural Development from Cornell University.
