Ayaz Parvez is Senior Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Specialist within the Africa Region DRM Team of the World Bank’s Global Practice on Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience (GSURR) since 2015. Ayaz is a seasoned practitioner in the conduct of post disaster and post crisis needs assessments, and also in the design and implementation of disaster and crisis recovery projects. Ayaz is currently task leading the Bank’s two drought and floods recovery projects in Malawi, and a post crisis recovery project in Nigeria. He is also currently preparing a new Bank project on drought recovery in Somalia.
Previously Ayaz worked with the Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) in its Resilient Recovery Team. He brings in many years of specialist operational experience from post disaster recovery operations of the World Bank from various regions. Ayaz led GFDRR’s global flagship initiatives on disaster recovery, including a Global Guide for Developing Disaster Recovery Frameworks, and the report on “Resilient Recovery: An Imperative for Sustainable Development”. Both products were launched at the Sendai WCDRR in March 2015. Ayaz Parvez also routinely conducted trainings in post disaster need assessment and recovery planning. Ayaz has a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelors in Civil Engineering.
