Aye Aye Thwin

Member of the Senior Foreign Service

Aye Aye Thwin is a member of the Senior Foreign Service, with almost 28 years of international experience in health systems, sector financing and policy reform with long-term resident service in South and Southeast Asia.  She has worked with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GIZ), the World Health Organization and was on the faculty at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University.  She joined USAID in 2003, and was assigned as Health Office Director in the Philippines (from 2004-2009) and the Regional Development Mission for Asia (from 2009-2014).  Currently, she serves as Senior Advisor at the Bureau for Global Health, and leads strategic initiatives on health financing, policy formulation and development cooperation including USAID’s health sector engagement at the G7 and G20.  She has published a number of peer-reviewed papers on financing, systems development, urban health and migrant health care.   Aye Aye is a medical doctor with a Master of Public Health from Mahidol University and a doctorate in health economics from Johns Hopkins University.
