H.E. Lt. Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama currently serves as the Minister of Environment and Climate Change for the Federal Government of Somalia, having assumed office in 2024. He is a distinguished member of the Somali Federal Parliament and brings a wealth of experience in governance, security, human rights, and national development to his new role. Prior to his appointment as Minister of Environment and Climate Change, he held several key positions within the Somali government, including Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, a position he served in from August 2024 until his recent transition.

With a distinguished career in both the public and security sectors, Lt. Gen. Bashir is recognized for his strategic leadership and commitment to national progress. He has previously held the position of State Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing, and served as Deputy Minister for Human Development and Social Services in 2014. Additionally, Lt. Gen. Bashir is the former Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Agency, General Manager of the Somali National Construction Agency, Deputy Commissioner of the Somali Police Forces, and Commissioner General of the Somali Corrections Service.

He holds a Master’s degree in Peace and Security Studies from the Institute for Peace and Security in Addis Ababa and has completed numerous strategic management courses, including specialized training with Interpol in France. Fluent in Somali, English, Italian, and Arabic, he combines a broad international perspective with deep national commitment.
