Bekzod Shamsiev is a Senior Agriculture Economist with over 24 years’ experience in South Asia, the Arab States, and the formerly socialist countries in transition. Bekzod is based in Washington DC and has been with the World Bank since 1999, leading a broad range of operational and analytical assignments ranging from design and implementation of commodity specific value chain development programs to building multi-sector economic models. He is currently an adviser on perennial fruit development in Himachal Pradesh and is responsible for agribusiness development program in Assam. As a Task Team Leader of the National Agriculture Higher Education Project Bekzod has been an advising the Indian Council of Agricultural Research on modernization of the higher agriculture education in India since 2020.
Bekzod Shamsiev graduated from Tashkent and Manchester Universities and began his career with the private insurance company, liaising with the Lloyd’s of London and developing insurance products in newly independent Uzbekistan. He continued this work in other countries of Central Asia, helping to set up company offices in the Kyrgyz Republic. Before joining the World Bank, Bekzod also worked in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Bekzod has Masters Degrees in Agricultural Economics from the University of Manchester and in International Policy and Practice from the George Washington University.
