Clinical Epidemiologist and Research Scientist, Haydom Lutheran Hospital

Dr. Benjamin Kamala is a clinical epidemiologist and research scientist at Haydom Lutheran Hospital. He is a graduate with an MD from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (2007), an MPH from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden (2011), and a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology and Global Health from Stavanger, Norway (2019).  He has over 15 years of experience in qualitative and quantitative research, monitoring, and evaluation of public health interventions. He has been responsible for planning, conducting, and preparing reports and disseminating research findings in local and international journals, conferences, and organizations. Dr. Kamala has authored and co-authored more than 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals. His Ph.D. on Safer Births project focused on "evaluating an innovative FHR monitoring device to improve perinatal outcomes”. He is currently the Principal Investigator for Safer Births Bundle of Care, which is implemented in more than 140 hospitals in five regions in Tanzania, aiming at reducing perinatal morbidity and mortality.
