Björn Philipp

Practice Manager, Urban Development, Resilience and Land, East Asia and Pacific

Björn Philipp is the Practice Manager for Urban Development, Resilience and Land in the in the East Asia and Pacific Region at the World Bank. He leads a team of global and regional experts delivering financing, technical assistance, and advisory services in Indonesia, Timor Leste, Thailand, Myanmar, Papa New Guinea and the Pacific Island Countries.

Prior to that, he served as the Andean Countries Program Leader for Infrastructure and Sustainable Development at the World Bank’s Latin America and Caribbean Region. There he was responsible for coordinating the Bank’s investment, policy and advisory program across the infrastructure and sustainable development sectors in Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru. Previously, Björn was the Program Leader for Infrastructure and Sustainable Development at the World Bank's office in Jerusalem, and worked as Senior Urban Specialist in the Middle East and North Africa, Europe and Central Asia regions.

Björn has been with the World Bank for the last 20 years. He has led the design, development and implementation of multiple investment operations, technical assistance, and analytical activities at the cross-section of resilient infrastructure, urban services and sub-national development. Before joining the Bank, Björn worked at the German International Development Agency and in public management consulting. He holds a master’s degree in public administration and international development from the University of Leipzig, Germany.
