Bontje Marie Zaengerling is a Senior Urban Specialist with the World Bank’s Urban, Disaster Risk Management, Resilience and Land Global Practice, currently working in the Africa region. In her current role, Bontje leads urban investment operations as well as advisory and analytical work focused on cities in Cameroon, Mozambique, and Angola. She brings technical and policy experience, at both national and subnational level, in urban upgrading, urban resilience (including nature-based solutions), transit-oriented development, urban land and planning, and disaster risk management. Prior to Africa, Bontje worked on a range of urban development and disaster risk management engagements in the Latin America region, including urban upgrading projects in Bolivia and Honduras, an Urbanization Review in Mexico, as well as disaster risk financing operations in Central America.
