Carlos Piñerúa is the World Bank Country Manager for Poland and the Baltic States, overseeing the World Bank operations in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Carlos has years of managerial experience and vast country experience that includes Central and South America, Central Asia, the Middle East, and East Asia. He has also been a guest expert speaker on issues of financial sector restructuring in many academic and professional fora. He is a macroeconomist by training, with professional expertise in banking and financial sector issues and competitiveness. Prior to joining the World Bank in 2008, he worked at the International Monetary Fund for over fifteen years, where he coordinated technical assistance to nearly 30 countries in the Middle East and Central Asia Department. Carlos holds a B.A. and M.A. in Economics from the Florida International University.
