Cem Karayalcin is a professor of economics at the Florida International University. His work combines several themes. One theme, which is couched in terms of the open economy macroeconomics literature, investigates the cross-country distributions of wealth and income. A second theme, focuses on different aspects of globalization as reflected in the political economy of debt. Finally, a third theme looks at the historically divergent growth and development experiences of China and Europe, highlighting some of the political economy mechanisms that might account for this divergence. He has published in such journals as the International Economic Review, Journal of Monetary Economics, and the Journal of International Economics. He received his PhD from Columbia University in 1989.
