Charlotte Fiedler is a researcher in the programme ‘Political Order, Values and Peace’ at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), Bonn, Germany, as well as a PhD candidate at the University of Essex, UK. She has been working at DIE since 2012, including projects on “Transformation and Development in Fragile States”, “Supporting Sustainable Peace” and “Social Cohesion in Africa”.
Charlotte conducts research and issues policy advice on democracy support and peacebuilding in post-conflict societies and fragile states. In her research, she particularly focuses on the role of political institutions for sustainable peace as well as the role of international actors’ in post-conflict processes. Recent publications include: On the effects of international support to peace and democracy in Kenya and Kyrgyzstan in the aftermath of interethnic violence (Journal of Asian and African Studies 53 (2), 2018) and Post-conflict societies: chances for peace and types of international support (with Karina Mross, DIE Briefing Paper 4, 2017)
Charlotte studied Political Science, Management Studies and Economics at the University of Potsdam and earned her Master’s degree from ETH Zürich in International and Comparative Political Science, with a focus on Peace and Conflict Studies. She is currently completing a PhD in Political Science at the University of Essex, which looks at how specific types of political institutions and institutional change can reduce the risk of conflict recurrence.
