Senior Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist, Water Global Practice, World Bank Group

Chloë Oliver Viola is a Senior Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist with the World Bank’s Water Global Practice. Prior to taking on this position, Ms. Viola was a Senior Infrastructure Economist in the Water Global Practice, leading investment operations in southern Africa (2013-2018). In 2018, Ms. Viola was selected as a “Presidential Exchange Program Fellow” and spent one year working with the infrastructure operations team at the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), specifically on maximizing private finance in the water sector. Ms. Viola joined the World Bank in 2011 through the Young Professionals Program, working initially with economics teams in Latin America and the Caribbean, and transitioning to create an economics team in the Africa Region before joining the Water Practice.

Before joining the World Bank, Ms. Viola was a Manager at Castalia Strategic Advisors, a boutique infrastructure consulting firm. Ms. Viola was part of the core team that opened the Washington, DC office in 2006 and led various assignments for the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and the UK’s Department for International Development in water, energy, and transport. Ms. Viola was also responsible for Castalia’s governance and anti-corruption practice. Prior to that, Ms. Viola worked with the Restructuring and Privatization Practice at TRC Global Management Solutions and was a Research Assistant at the International Monetary Fund.

Ms. Viola holds an MSc in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics and a BA in Geography from University College London.
