Christina Malmberg Calvo, a Swedish national, is since May 1, 2015, Country Manager of the World Bank Uganda office. She has been with the World Bank for more than 20 years, and was, most recently, manager of the Poverty Global Practice in the Middle East and North Africa and South Asia regions. Throughout her career, she has worked on infrastructure services and sustainable development in Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean. She was Lead Economist in the Transport sector, Country Manager in Dominican Republic, and part of the core team for the World Development Report on Poverty in 2000.
She received the International Road Federation’s Professional of the Year award in 2005. Before joining the World Bank, she worked on Wall Street for a multinational corporation, the International Labour Organisation, and was a tenured lecturer of economics at St. Louis University in Madrid, Spain. In the mid-1980s, she lived and worked in rural Tanzania.
As Country Manager for Uganda, Christina will lead the Bank's day-to-day dialogue with the Government of Uganda and key stakeholders and continue to strengthen the relationship between the Bank and the country. She will also oversee the implementation of the WBG’s overall program in support of Uganda’s development priorities.
