Cia Sjetnan is the World Bank Senior Operations Officer for the Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Burundi, and Sao Tome & Principe, based in Washington DC. She joined the World Bank Group in 2003 and specializes in fragile, and conflict affected states.
Cia has extensive experience from around the World Bank, including in conflict-affected, low-and middle-income countries. As Senior Country Officer for Vietnam, Cia led the preparation of a new World Bank Group strategy. She has played a key role in the design and implementation of the World Bank lending and analytical portfolios in DRC and Vietnam, and remains focused on deepening policy dialogue and partner engagement.
From 2010 to 2014, Cia worked as Senior Country Officer and Acting Country Manager in Cameroon, with responsibility for the World Bank’s strategic engagement, lending and analytical portfolio, client engagement, and country office operations.
Before joining the World Bank Group, she was an analyst at Datamonitor, London, and volunteered with Search for Common Ground.
A Norwegian national, Cia speaks Norwegian, English, French, and Italian. She graduated from the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) with an M.S. and has degrees from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at John Hopkins University and the University of Bath, UK.
