Clément Gorin is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Lyon and was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Toronto. Broadly speaking, Clément's research sheds light on how the movement of people and ideas shapes the spatial distribution of economic activity and the development of urban areas. From a methodological perspective, there are two recurring themes to his work. First, he makes extensive use of historical data to understand the origins of observed spatial disparities. Second, he designs deep learning models for image and language modelling to exploit original sources of data including historical maps, documents, and satellite images, among other sources. His work has been published in the Journal of Urban Economics. More information is available on his webpage.
