Daniel Valderrama is an Economist for the World Bank Group’s Poverty and Equity Global Practice in the West and Central Africa Region. Previously, he was member of the Equity Policy Lab and a Junior Professional Associate in the Latin American and Caribbean Region within the same Global Practice. Before joining the World Bank Group, he worked at the Colombian National Statistical Office (DANE), where he served as a technical member for the National Committee for Poverty Measurement in Colombia. He has also held positions as a young researcher at Universidad del Rosario and the Regional Studies Institute at Universidad de Antioquia.
As an applied microeconomist, his research lies at the intersection of development and public economics, focusing on the impact of public policies and political distortions on local economic development. He is also deeply engaged in studying the causes and consequences of poverty and income inequality.
He has published on these topics in peer-reviewed academic journals and policy reports, and has received funding for his research from the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, Georgetown University, Banco de México, the Colombian Institute for Educational Evaluation (ICFES), and Universidad del Rosario. He holds a Master’s and a PhD in Economics from Georgetown University, as well as a Master's in Economics from Universidad del Rosario and a Bachelor's in Economics from Universidad de Antioquia.
