David K. Newsom is a retired World Bank Senior IT Manager. His 21 year tenure at the Bank included a variety of management roles in the enterprise IT department including Global Communications and Enterprise Platforms, and as a strategy advisor to several former WBG CIOs. Prior to the World Bank, he was part of the NASA Antarctic Field Team that deployed the first geostationary satellite communications system to support telephony and data communications from the Geographic South Pole in 1994. David earned his Ph.D. (2016) in Computer Engineering at The George Washington University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science where he conducted research in green high performance and parallel computing. He also holds a M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University (1992), a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland (1990), and a B.A. degree in International Relations from San Francisco State University (1983). David is an IEEE Senior Member and has been a member of the IEEE and ACM since 1988.
