Disaster Risk Management Specialist

Dechen Tshering brings over 18 years of extensive experience in sustainable development, focusing on disaster risk management (DRM), climate adaptation, infrastructure development, and conservation of cultural heritage sites. She is an independent consultant mainly working on DRM with an emphasis on the development of strategy documents, project management and coordination, and emergency preparedness. Before this, Dechen was a Disaster Risk Management Specialist with the World Bank Bhutan Country Office for over 8 years, during which she led and spearheaded the World Bank’s engagement in DRM and climate change program in Bhutan, which paved a foundation for the Bank’s series of engagement in the country. Prior to joining the Bank, Dechen spearheaded the DRM program of cultural heritage in the Royal Government of Bhutan as a Civil Engineer in the Department of Culture under the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs. Dechen holds a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, a Master's in Structural Analysis of Historical Monuments and Constructions, and a Master's in Business Administration. She is adept at fostering partnerships, managing projects, coordinating with diverse stakeholders, mobilizing resources, and delivering results with a strong client orientation.
