Deepak Malik is an Operations Specialist with the Uttarakhand Disaster Recovery Project and is based in the state’s capital, Dehradun. He has about 15 years of experience in the field of disaster management and development planning, having designed and implemented projects for emergency response and recovery for droughts (India), floods (India, Bangladesh), cyclones (India, Myanmar) and the tsunami (Indonesia). He has also contributed to knowledge building and sharing through baseline studies, assessments, social researches and publications across 50 different projects in India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Uganda, Nepal, Afghanistan, China, DRC, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iraq and Bangladesh. Prior to joining the Bank he worked with various UN and multilateral agencies, including UNICEF, the British Red Cross, the International Committee for Red Cross and HelpAge International. He holds a post graduate degree from Kharkov Polytechnical University, Ukraine and a degree in mechanical engineering.
