Derek Fromson is the Communications Lead for the World Bank Group’s open financial data program (finances.worldbank.org). Derek coordinates the program’s content and marketing strategy, including blog posts, event planning, social media and marketing collateral. Prior to joining the Bank in 2012, Derek managed global web operations and internal/external communications for Korn/Ferry International in Los Angeles, California. Earlier, Derek oversaw digital strategy for Occidental College and as a Senior Writer for the Capital Group Companies, which manages the American Funds. Derek spent the first decade of his career working as a reporter/editor for the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post and several newspapers in Mexico City and along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Derek earned an MBA from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
