Derek H. C. Chen

Derek H. C. Chen is a macroeconomist with the Development Economics Prospects Group at the World Bank.  Derek, a Singapore national, joined the World Bank in 2000, after obtaining his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Davis. 
 
During his tenure at the Bank, Derek has worked on a number of fields including economic growth, poverty analysis, demographic economics, the knowledge economy and employment creation.  Currently, he is a contributing author to the World Bank’s semi-annual Flagship report, the Global Economic Prospects, focusing on the Latin American and Caribbean region.   Prior to joining the Prospects Group, he led the Employment Policies Initiative at the World Bank Institute where he specialized in innovation, knowledge and employment creation.  Derek has written widely on the growth effects of innovation and knowledge.  Email: dchen2@worldbank.org.
