Dipak Dasgupta is Lead Economist for South Asia. He was immediately prior to this Lead Economist for India, based at the Bank's New Delhi Office. Mr. Dasgupta joined the Bank in 1981 as Young professional. He has previously worked on a number of countries, including Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, and Thailand, and in several regions, as well as in the Bank's research department. He is an expert on economic management, financial crises, poverty reduction, agriculture, globalization, trade and capital flows. Mr. Dasgupta was educated at Delhi and Cambridge Universities, and has taught and published widely. He is the principal author of four World Bank flagship reports and has edited several books.
